Our mission is to address disparities in access to accurate, affordable, and efficient tax preparation services.

Spending.

Over half of families and individuals making under $30,000 per year use a paid tax preparer. In 2018, the average tax preparer charged $298. VITA saves families money that can then be used for necessities.

Accuracy.

According to a study conducted by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, 60% of returns completed by paid tax preparers contained errors, some as large as $3,718.

Resources.

Paid tax preparers create barriers to access vital anti-poverty tools like the Earned Income Tax Credit, which can refund families up to $7,000. The EITC helps lift 6 million families above the poverty line every year.
